Kaleidoscopes
Kaleidoscopes are almost synonomous with St Andrews - and they are on display all over the University in various forms. FifeX was asked to design some from scratch to put in MUSA but with a few twists. The client wanted users to be able to compare 5 and 3 mirror kaleidoscopes and also have the ability to change what could be viewed.

FifeX's system includes removable 'cassettes' that can be loaded with different material by the gallery staff. The cassettes lock neatly into the end of the kaleidoscope and can be interchanged. The kaleidoscopes can also be used without a cassette and can be twisted just far enough that people can view each other!

Displayed in the gallery, they are positioned at different heights, to make it accessible to different users.

This item was made as part of a project for The University of the Museum of St Andrews (MUSA). The museum opened in Autumn 2008 and is open to the public, but has planned events for various groups and schools.
